Communicate

Forgot to Fruition – Friday

EMPLOYEES: Have you ever been in a situation where you’re waist deep in production on a project and you hear your manager say, “by the way, I want you to also focus on ___ and ___”? Suddenly, you realize the new ask has nothing to do with the project or even remotely aligns to the goal. You need to communicate!

There are many reasons a project stops, pauses, and gets derailed.

There are cases where a manager forgot the
initial vision and desired outcome. Has this happened to you before?

When this situation occurs, stop and be thoughtful. Managers are busy and are human. While you may not be the decision maker or stakeholder, you’re a part of the team and can ask for clarification of how this new focus aligns to the outcome. Your conversation could influence the decision to cut time, effort, and budget on an unnecessary commodity besides derailing the project. It’s important to communicate.

The Challenge: Take a moment to think about a time that echoes with this message. What did you do? What would YOU do differently? How would you communicate with an employee?
